There lived a moneylender in a village, in whose house there was no shortage of food, clothes, and money. But his wife was very miserly. She did not give anything to any beggar. She was busy with household chores all day. Once a sage Mahatma came to his door on a Thursday and begged for alms. She was leaping the courtyard of the house at that time. Because of this, the sage started saying to the Mahatma, 'Maharaj! At this time I am leaping home. can't give you anything. Come again sometime.' The sage Mahatma was left empty-handed.
After a few days the same sage Mahatma came again and asked for alms in the same way. The moneylender was feeding her son at that time. She started saying- 'Maharaj! What should I do? I don't have time. That's why I can't give you alms.' When the sage Mahatma came for the third time, he tried to avoid them in the same way, but the sage Mahatma started saying - 'If you have a holiday at all, will you give me alms?' The moneylender started saying- 'Yes sir! If this happens, you will be greatly blessed.' The sage Mahatma started saying - 'Well, I will tell you a solution. You get up on Thursday when the day rises and after sweeping the whole house, keep the garbage in one corner and do not put a square, etc. in the house. Then after taking a bath, tell the family members that all must be shaved on that day. Make a kitchen and keep it behind the stove. Never put it in front Light a lamp after dark in the evening and do not wear yellow clothes or eat yellow-colored things on Thursday. If you do this then you will not have to do any household work.' The moneylender did the same.
After some time there was no grain to eat in his house. Within a few days, the same sage Mahatma came again and asked for alms. The moneylender said, 'Maharaj! There is no food to eat in my house. What shall I give you?' Then the sage Mahatma said- 'Even when you had everything in your house, you did not give anything. Now it is a complete holiday, even then you are not given anything. What do you want? Say that.' Then the moneylender prayed with folded hands- 'Maharaj! Now tell me such a way that I can have the same wealth as before. Now I promise that I will definitely do as you say.' Then the sage Mahatma said - 'Get up early in the morning on Thursday and retire from bathing, lubricate the house with cow dung and the men of the house should not get shaving. Keep giving food and water to the hungry. Light the lamp right in the evening. If you do this, then all your wishes will be fulfilled by the grace of Lord Brihaspati. The moneylender did the same and the wealth and food in his house became the same as it was before.
