Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is considered very important in Hinduism. This is called Devuthani Ekadashi or Devotthan Prabodhani Ekadashi.
This time Dev Uthani Ekadashi is falling on 1 November 2025. On this day Lord Shri Hari Vishnu, the maintainer of the world, wakes up after four months of eternal sleep. All the auspicious works like marriage etc start from this Ekadashi.
According to legend, Vrinda was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. She was married to a demon named Jalandhar. Everyone was worried about the atrocities of that monster. When there was a war between the Devas and Jalandhar, Vrinda's chastity made it impossible to kill her. All the gods sought help from Vishnu ji in this regard. Vishnu ji took the form of Jalandhar and went in front of Vrinda. Vrinda got up from the puja considering Narayan as her husband, which broke her fast. As a result, Jalandhar died in the war.
When Vrinda came to know about this, she said to Vishnu ji that O Narayan, I have worshiped you all my life, then why did you cheat me like this? Vishnu ji had no answer to Vrinda's questions. He stood listening silently and did not respond to Vrinda's words. On not getting the answer, Vrinda got angry and said that you have treated me like a stone. You turn to stone. Narayan turned to stone due to the curse given by Vrinda. Due to this, the balance of the universe started deteriorating. Then all the gods prayed to Vrinda. Accepting his prayer, Vrinda forgave Narayan and became Sati. When a plant was born from his ashes, it was called Tulsi. Vishnu ji was repentant because of the deceit he had done. Because of this, he turned one of his forms into stone. After that Vishnu ji said that his worship would be considered incomplete without Tulsi Dal. Respecting Vrinda, all the gods got her married to Vishnu in the form of a stone. That's why Tulsi and Shaligram are married.
