Lord Shankar married Parvati Ji and after that Kailash mountain started living. Parvati ji was living in her father's house even after getting married, which she did not like at all. One day he told Lord Shiva that you take me to your house. Even after getting married to you, I have to stay at my father's house. I don't like living here. All the girls go to their husband's house after marriage but I have to stay at my father's house. Lord Shiva accepted the words of Mother Parvati and brought her with him to his holy city Kashi.
Coming here, he was established in the form of Vishwanath-Jyotirlinga. It is said that only by visiting this Jyotirlinga man become free from all sins. If a devotee visits him every day, Lord Shankar takes the entire burden of his yogakshema on himself.
Such a devotee becomes an officer of this abode of Shiv Shankar. Also, the grace of Shiva always remains on him. It is also a belief that Lord Vishwanath himself recites the tarak mantra to his supreme devotee while dying.
