On the day of Kartik Amavasya, all the animals and birds started looking for Lakshmi with their eyes. In the night, as soon as Lakshmi ji came on the earth, the owl saw her in the dark with her eyes and reached near her. After this, Owl started praying to Lakshmi ji that he should choose her as his vehicle. Lakshmiji looked around and did not see any animal or bird, so she accepted the owl as her vehicle. Since then Lakshmi ji came to be called Uluk Vahini. Owl, about which it is believed that worshiping owl brings happiness and prosperity in the house.
