।। ॐ नमः शिवाय ।।
According to a legend, Suryavanshi King Mandhata did severe penance to Lord Shiva. Pleased with the penance of the king, Lord Shiva asked to ask for a boon. On this the king said that the Lord should adopt this place for the welfare of the people. That is, they should make this place their residence. Lord Shiva accepted this prayer of the king and Bholenath was established here in the form of Shivling.
This mountain was named Mandhata Parvat after the name of the king. This mountain always remains submerged. It is said that Mother Narmada Jyotirlinga performs Jalabhishek of Omkareshwar. The most important thing is that this Jyotirlinga is not made by any human being but it is a natural Shivling.
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is located in Madhya Pradesh. Narmada river flows near Omkareshwar. The shape of Om is formed here by the river flowing around the hill. It is said that the word Om originated from the mouth of Lord Brahma. The special thing is that this Jyotirlinga is in the shape of Aonkar i.e. Om. That is why this Jyotirlinga is called Omkareshwar.
